Vote Joan Lopez
Hi, for those of you that might not know me… I’m Joan Lopez. A Colorado Native and according to 23 and Me 45% Spanish and Portuguese 41.1% Native American and 13.2% other. Born right here in Denver in St. Joseph’s hospital just like my daughter, son and father. I am the first Democrat EVER elected to the Arapahoe County Clerk’s office.
Since 1861, I’m the first Democrat, and the first person of color, and the first Latina to hold the Clerk and Recorder seat. This Job isn’t new to me, I have 21 years experience working in this office. So… Believe me when I tell you, I won’t let you down. When it comes to my values, my vote, I’m a Democrat. As for my job, I want everyone to vote. Everyone. And what I’ve been doing is working to have every voice heard in Arapahoe County. Voter turnout has set new records in each election since I took office. It’s actually been easy. Putting polling places and drop off boxes in underserved areas makes participation improve. I want it to be easier for everyone to vote. Especially now.
These are trying times, people have strong opinions and sometimes harsh words. Please…Vote and make your voice heard. Journalist Bill Moyers once said ” Democracy belongs to those who exercise it”. In Arapahoe county there are many ways to “exercise” democracy. From same day voter registration and in person voting, to mail in ballots or secure drop boxes throughout the county. While I’m here I will guarantee your voice is heard and that your vote is counted. Oh, and like I always say. Don’t forget to vote.
I want all employees to be able to step into any job position, and feel as comfortable as I do. I think it’s important that a customer can get the answers from any employee, rather than hearing. “That’s not my department” or “I have no idea.” I here that too often these days. There is no such thing as “that’s not my job.” If you don’t know, find out who does and do what you can so people are not frustrated and completely disgusted with the customer service we provide. The Arapahoe County Clerks office, has a lot of different transactions we provide, our citizens and all employees need to work together to fill the gap. Customer service is important. I want it to be as important as their paycheck. I care about what the Arapahoe County citizens needs and wants. It should be a smooth process with a friendly smile. This is why cross training is imperative.
We all need an open door to the knowledge and functions of the Arapahoe County Clerks office. Employees should be able to step into any position when needed. The plan is to switch it up. I once had a boss that had you move to each department every six months, so you were familiar with all areas of his company. Mixing it up was the key. The job was never mundane. I worked there for almost three years and I have to say, it worked. The customers were happy, the employees were happy, and the business is still, to this day successful. This also helps in finding each employee’s strengths and where to place them.
I am not just an employee of Arapahoe County I am a resident, I am one of you. I want to build a better office for the citizens of Arapahoe County. Together we can build a customer friendly, knowledgeable, efficient office. Your help is important. Vote for Joan Lopez for your next Arapahoe County clerk, so we can move forward to a better Arapahoe County.
